Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani has always been a big fan of Tadao Ando s work as they both have the same clean, understated aesthetic for which the fashion designer became famous.

Armani headquarters and theatre was t he result of their first collaboration in 2001 . The space, that includes a catwalk and large seating area, has hosted a bevy of fashion shows throughout the years, setting an elegant stage for various performances and special events linked to the house s main runway collections.

The evocative building is an impressive display of Ando s grid like architecture infused with Giorgio Armani s signature grey hued palette and distinctive character.

The second collaboration, a fashion museum was inaugurated in 2015 to celebrate the 40 th anniversary of the brand s founding and showcasing a bout 600 fashion garments and 200 accessories from the 1980 s to the present date.

Tadao Ando

Tadao Ando is a Japanese architect and winner of the Pritzker Prize. He often uses concrete planes to play with light and space while harmonizing the building with its natural surroundings. Ando is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, as well as the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He was also a visiting professor at Yale, Columbia, UC Barkley, and Harvard Universities.

Tadao Ando’s body of work is known forthe creative use of natural light and for architectures that follow the natural forms of the landscape (rather thanks disturbing the landscape by making it conform to the constructed space of a building).
